Which COD DMZ are you looking for?
COD DMZ is an ambiguous search. It can refer to the legacy DMZ Beta associated with Modern Warfare II, or to Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. Choose the game version before following an install guide, map location or weapon recommendation. This site primarily covers MW4 DMZ.
MW4 DMZ: the extraction loop
In the official MW4 overview, players enter Hajin alone or with a squad, choose objectives, recover equipment and attempt extraction while encountering hostile forces and rival Operators. Successful extraction carries recovered items into future deployments; failure can lose gear and resources.
Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, Side Ops and high-value target hunts provide different activity categories. The FOB supports preparation between runs. Use the Hajin overview, mission briefing and FOB guide for the corresponding official summaries.
Legacy DMZ Beta: a different installation context
Activision's July 29, 2025 installation update describes the legacy DMZ Beta as free-to-play within the standalone MWII installation. It says players can download a free version of MWII for that Beta, while premium MWII modes require ownership. That dated announcement does not establish present server availability, queue health or an identical menu on every platform.
Avoid tutorials that tell you to open an old COD HQ Warzone row without checking when they were written. An installer screenshot from a previous year is not reliable evidence for the current launcher. Current legacy menu steps and live server status: TBA.
Is MW4 DMZ free, and how do I enter?
The legacy free-access statement is not a free MW4 offer. Review the official MW4 edition information for the version and platform you intend to use. The DMZ page lists early access beginning October 20; full MW4 launch is October 23, 2026. As of this October 21 review, these are published dates, not a live login test.

DMZ or traditional Multiplayer?
If you want to research equipment recovery, extraction and preparation between operations, continue with the MW4 DMZ homepage. For competitive match formats, Create-a-Class and Multiplayer progression, use the MW4 Multiplayer briefing. Do not copy a Multiplayer build into DMZ and assume its perks, unlocks or performance apply unchanged.
